Miller Marine Products adapter:
1) Older Miller Marine Products rail system with # 10 mounting screws. Drill out and replace # 10 machine screws with larger ¼” machine screws in the area where this mount will be used. Make sure you have a ¼” machine screw bolted through the rail to the boat (no self-tapping screws) on each side of the area this mount will be used. Rail systems sold after January 1, 2020 approximate date will have ¼” holes in the rail. Prior to January 1 2020 approximate date will have drilled holes for #10 machine screws those rails will need to have the holes drilled and countersunk for ¼” flat head machine bolts. Feel free to call if you have any questions 360-931-4338.
2) It is recommended for all stainless steel bolts to aluminum part connections you apply a protectant like never seize to control corrosion.
3) Bolt the dovetail bar with four holes in the top position on the inside of the main mount with the four slots. The dovetail bar should have a star washer in the recessed area so that the star washer is in contact with the main downrigger mount and the dovetail bar. Do not tighten yet.
4) Bolt the square bar with four holes in the bottom position on the inside of the main mount with the four slots. The square bar should have a star washer so that the star washer is in contact with the main downrigger mount and the square bar. Do not tighten yet.
5) Install the dovetail bar with the 2 holes between the square bar and the other dovetail bar hold in place using the hand knobs. Don not tighten yet.
6) Place the downrigger mount in place with the rubber stoppers against the top of the gunnel so the bracket is fairly level. Loosen all fasteners to allow easy movement of the parts.
7) Push down the top dovetail bar so it is resting on the installed rail (boat rail) tighten the top bar 4 bolts with a 7/16” wrench. (There should be star washers between the bars and the downrigger bracket, the split lock washer against the head of the bolt and the round washer will rest against the slots in the downrigger mount.)
8) The second dovetail bar with hand knobs is then slid up to mesh in with the bottom of the boat rail tighten those hand knobs hand tight.
9) Push the bottom 5/8” square bar up tight against the dovetail bar with the hand knobs, tighten the bottom bar 4 bolts with a 7/16” wrench. (There should be star washers between the bars and the downrigger bracket, the split lock washer against the head of the bolt and the round washer will rest against the slots in the downrigger mount.)
10) Rubber pads may also use longer full threaded machine screws if the spacing of the rubber pads with hardware supplied doesn’t reach the gunnel. Using a longer fully threaded ¼”-20 SS bolt with 2 – ¼” – 20 nuts (new bolt not supplied).
To lengthen the rubber bumpers use a flat washer on the head of the machine screw (supplied) (longer machine screws not supplied) then install the rubber bumper, next place the large 1.5” outside diameter washer (supplied)against the rubber bumper followed by 2 – ¼” -20 SS nuts. Run one nut down tight against the large washer and use the other nut for locking the bolt in place on the underside of the mount.
